Les Blank, the director of Burden of Dreams, said earlier this year that Criterion would be releasing his film about this time. I also read their plans were to put it out with Fitzcarraldo, but I don't know how that's going. It's been released in a Korean Herzog set, talked about in the Herzog thread some. Gates of Heaven will be released on February 2005, it says on his site, I see this just now so that's good news. Vernon, Florida and the Thin Blue Line will be released then too. La Luna I don't think will be released, or I haven't heard anything. Bertolucci I read doesn't have any interest at all in having his older films released on DVD or anything, which includes the Conformist. Over the Edge is supposed to be released on DVD soon. The Devil, Probably and several others of Bresson may be released by Artificial Eye in Summer, 2005, it says on the masters of cinema site. Mouchette will be out in November, they say too. Two or three things i know about her and weekend will be out soon too, it says there. That site is very good for DVD releases, they have a calendar of releases that shows some time ahead. and yeah, I don't think you'll ever see Wiseman's films on DVD. He retains the rights and doesn't seem to want that, but I don't know, maybe Titticut Follies one day if anything i guess.

They need to make a DVD of Mike Leigh's Naked. It's a shame it isn't out already.

Yeah, the Godard and Bresson ones are released in the UK so they would be R2 or PAL at least. You should get a multi-region dvd player, you can get them for I guess about twenty dollars and they're perfectly fine. You can get ones that don't require PAL playback on your television too, these ones where you just press PAL/NTSC on the DVD player remote and it plays. That is what i have for these. everyone should have one.

Arizona Dream, La Haine, Mouchette, and Zero de Conduit are all out on DVD in the UK.
You should buy esp. the Jean Vigo set which has all four films he made plus shitloads more.
If you have a spare twenty, you could do worse than buy the Werkmeister Harmonies/Damnation DVD also.

fuck...wow....gotta get one of them things quick.

thanks much you guys for the help, really. i'll make it a point to get one of these soon. my current player is gettin pretty old anyway, as it is. this sounds like a good thing to invest in, for sure. is there any particular brand that is especially good for all-region players??? also, are there any individual uk dvd releases that were particularly better than their pertinent us dvd releases???

In terms of better uk versions, boggle, I can't say off the top of my head.
there's tons of stuff released here that's not available in the states...'Naked' for one...and vice versa.
I dunno, what might you be interested in?
A couple of Ozus, Mizoguchis, Tarkovskys we have that you don't I think.

very cool.

i looked around a little bit on amazon and i found this player: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...ronics&n=172282

philips is a trusted brand at my house, like always has been. what do you guys think of this one, this player? it seems to have all of the needed features, from what i can see.

Yeah, that one looks very good. It also plays most downloaded films right off a CD, I think it says, which is a fine feature.

According to dvdaficionado.com, Gates of Heaven and Vernon, Fl. are supposed to be coming out on DVD sometime next year, along with The Thin Blue Line and A Brief History of Time. I don't know how accurate their information is, though.

I just ordered Alredo Garcia from them (koreandvds), so we'll see. Just got tired of watching my ex-rental VHS copy.
