point taken on DVDs, but there is no comparison here to LPs. original pressings of records -- especially those recorded during the analog era -- are as close to the source as you can get. the more reissues of an album there are, the more the original tapes have deteriorated, the more the sources are suspect, etc. most reissues outside of the major label world are not even from the original tapes, but source other pressings instead. there are certain cases where reissues are much higher quality than the originals (especially if the 1st press was done on suspect wax or had any pressing defects), but almost always the original is the best possible sound, version, and representation you can own of any LP.

Criterion is releasing Bottle Rocket on November 25. Two discs with a making of documentary, commentary track, deleted scenes, the original short film version and more stuff. I really like the coverart.

I'm no judge of crowds Ted, but I'd say there's about 17 million of 'em out there.

The poignant, deadpan films of Aki Kaurismäki are pitched somewhere in the wintry nether lands between comedy and tragedy. And rarely in his body of work has the line separating those genres seemed thinner than in what is often identified as his "Proletariat Trilogy," Shadows in Paradise, Ariel, and The Match Factory Girl. In these three films, something like social-realist farces, Kaurismäki surveys the working-class outcasts of his native Finland with detached yet disarming amusement. Featuring commanding, off-key visual compositions and delightfully dour performances, the films in this triptych exemplify the talents of a unique and highly influential film artist.

That's a truly awful cover and i don't know why they changed it from their original artwork:

The new cover looks like it could be the artwork for some Disney movie about Sled-racing dogs or something.

I disagree, I think that a neutral image is more ominous.

I saw Naked Childhood back in March and i thought it was one of the most assured feature film debut's i've seen and one of the best films about childhood. This film is the real deal, comparisons with The 400 Blows and Fanny and Alexander are apt, hell Gummo even, the cat killing scene anyone?

I feel blindsided, when did that come out? It has the same cover as the one I already own.

I'm glad to see that Criterion is releasing "Bottle Rocket" sooner than I'd heard. That was my overall favorite movie until I had watched "Gummo."

Anyone seen this? It looks like it would appeal to a lot of people here.
